Woerner’s Double-Double Help Cardinals Fly past

WASHINGTON-- Brianna Peterson dropped 22 points in CUA’s 76-34 victory over John Jay College Sunday night, while teammate Jill Woerner also contributed ten points, ten rebounds, and four blocks in the opening round of the 2010 CUA/Fairfield Inn Laurel Women's Basketball Classic.
The two combined for 32 points and 13 rebounds helped the Cardinals improve to 8-2.
Jessica Lirio and Dominique Grice led the way for the Bloodhounds scoring 10 points each and grabbing a combined 12 boards.
CUA took an early 16-2 lead in the game’s opening minutes, and the squad never looked back. Peterson sparked a run that left the Cards with a commanding 41-16 lead at the half.
There was no let down in the second period, as the Cardinals came out strong out of the gate on both ends of the floor. The team forced the Bloodhounds into 35 turnovers while holding them to just 34 points by the time the final buzzer sounded.
CUA took advantage at the charity stripe, going 10 of 15 and had a season high as a team of 16 steals. Of the 15 players who saw time on the court for the Cards, 13 scored at least one point, with the other two contributing defensively with rebounds and blocks.
CUA will play in the 2010 CUA/Fairfield Inn Laurel Women’s Basketball Classic Championship against the Garnet of Swarthmore College on January 4, 2010 at 4 p.m. at the DuFour Center.
