Women's Basketball Falls to Drew, 65-63
WASHINGTON-- Brianna Peterson led CUA (11-4, 4-1 LC) with 28 points and 12 rebounds for her second double double in as many days, but Drew University (10-4, 2-3 LC) beat the buzzer and the Cardinals, 65-63 on Sunday afternoon in Landmark Conference action.
Danielle Barber led the way for the Rangers with a triple double, finishing with 10 rebounds, 10 assists, and 21 points, including the game winning triple as time expired. The visitors out rebounded the Cards 55-51 in the contest.
CUA opened the game with a Peterson jumper in the first minute, and climbed to a lead of as many as nine in the first half before settling on an eight point advantage at the break.
In the second half it was more of the same as the Cards grew their advantage to 12 early and held that advantage throughout the half. With 3:50 remaining Peterson converted one of two free throws to give the Cards a 13-point lead.
Whitney Mackay converted two free throws after being fouled for the Rangers and sparked a 15-2 run that culminated as the buzzer sounded with a triple by Danielle Barber. CUA missed four free throws down that stretch, but two turnovers, including a shot clock violation with 12 seconds remaining, proved costly for the Cards.
CUA will look to rebound quickly, as the Cardinals will welcome Michigan Ave. rival Trinity College to the DuFour Center on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
