CUA Drops Stevenson 55-43, Peterson Scores 36
STEVENSON, Md.-- Brianna Peterson dropped 36 points in CUA's 55-43 win over Stevenson University on Wednesday evening.
Peterson's team- and game-high 36 points included a 4-for-9 performance from three-point range and 14 of 24 overall from the field. She also added 10 boards, trailing only Jill Woerner who led the Cardinals with 11 caroms and six points.
JaQuell Conley led the way for the Mustangs with 17 points while Kristen Steiner grabbed nine rebounds for the hosts.
CUA led by five early, but saw that lead dwindle and eventually passed by the hosts with 12:01 remaining in the first half. Rayshell Parker's layup put the Mustangs up 9-8 but Christina Rogers answered with a layup of her own. Rodgers' bucket sparked an 11-0 run that gave the Cards a 19-9 lead with 6:39 left in the first half.
The Cardinals finished the first half with a 10-point lead and broke out to a 16-point lead in the first four minutes of the second half.
CUA led by as many as 18 with 12:22 remaining and defended that lead down the stretch with strong rebounding and solid shooting.
The Cardinals out rebounded the hosts 50-45 including a 37-29 advantage on the defensive boards. CUA shot 36.7% from the field for the game and held the Mustangs to 20.6%.
CUA will return to action on Sunday, Jan. 3 at 6 p.m., against John Jay at the DuFour Center.
