Women's Basketball Falls to Susquehanna 74-48
WASHINGTON-- Jill Woerner grabbed 13 rebounds for the Cardinals (12-7, 4-4 LC) as CUA fell to Susquehanna 74-48 in Landmark Conference action Friday evening.
Rachael Hughes led the way for the hosts scoring 15 points and grabbing 12 rebounds for one of two double doubles by Susquehanna. Samantha Cartwright notched the other with 10 points and 11 boards.
CUA led for only 35 seconds in the contest as the Crusaders toppled the Cardinals scoring 13 of the first 19 points of the game to break out to a 13-6 lead just over seven minutes in.
Susquehanna then extended that lead to 11 but an 8-0 run put the Cardinals back within three with 5:25 to go in the first half. Shooting just 23.3% in the first half, the Cardinals trailed at the break 32-22.
The Cardinals started strong in the second half cutting the lead to six, but turnovers would lead to 15 points for the hosts who then maintained their double figure lead for the remainder of the contest.
CUA shot just 24.2% from the field including a 3-of-16 effort from beyond the arch. The Cardinals grabbed 17 offensive boards, but turned them into only 18 points.
The Cardinals will return to action tomorrow afternoon as CUA will travel to Juniata for the second half of this Landmark Conference weekend. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
