KING'S POINT, N.Y.-- Rebecca Grimes scored a game-high 22
points to lead four players in double figures in the Merchant
Marine Academy’s 70-56 victory over Catholic University on
Senior Day at O’Hara Hall on Saturday.
The Mariners boosted their record to 10-14 and 2-11 in the
Landmark Conference. CUA lost its sixth consecutive contest to drop
to 12-10 and 4-7.
Janay Weathers, the Landmark’s leading rebounder (8.9 rpg),
tallied 13 points and 12 rebounds. Brooke Picillo had 12 points,
eight steals and seven boards and Emily Meehan scored 10
points.
Brianna Peterson paced the Cardinals with 19 points and eight
rebounds. Jenny McGann added 13 points and Jill Woerner contributed
12 points and seven rebounds.
The Cards trailed 34-24 at the break and went down by 18 in the
second half before cutting it to 48-42 with a little over 11
minutes remaining. They drew no closer.
CUA hosts the University of Scranton on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
