Peterson, Woerner Earn All-Conference Honors
WASHINGTON- Two members of the CUA women's basketball teams have earned post-season accolades for their efforts in Landmark Conference play this year. Junior Brianna Peterson was named to the Second Team All-Landmark, while freshman Jill Woerner earned the title of Rookie of the Year.
Peterson provided an offensive threat for the Cards this year, finishing first in the Conference in points per game (19.0 PPG overall), fourth in made three-pointers (36), and fifth in three-point percentage (40.4). She also earned the 10th spot in free throw percentage (73.5).
The Garnerville, N.Y., native was also a force on the boards this season. She finished 10th in the conference in rebounding (6.0 RPG), as well as 7th on the defensive end (4.22 RPG) and 15th offensively (1.83).
Woerner had an incredible impact on the team in her first season as a Cardinal, becoming the first athlete in program history to garner Landmark Rookie of the Year honors. The Providence, R.I., native made an impact in nearly every statistical category, finishing 15th in scoring (9.3 PPG), 8th in rebounding (6.2 RPG), and 15th in field goal percentage (39.7).
An extraordinarily well-rounded player, Woerner's talent was also visible on the defensive end. She finished the year 3rd in blocked shots (44) and 7th in the conference in steals per game (1.88). The guard also ended her freshman campaign 6th in defensive rebounds at 4.24 per game.
