Landmark Conference honors Briones as Player of the Week
WASHINGTON –Freshman Liz Broines was named the Landmark Conference Player of the Week on Monday after averaging 17.5 points and 6 rebounds in a pair of games for the Cardinals last week. This marks the third time this season a Cardinal has received a weekly honor from the conference.
Briones started her week with a career-high 20 points on 9 of 12 shooting in a win over Wentworth on December 20. The Texas native added six rebounds and a pair of steals in the Cardinals' 67-54 victory.
The forward then scored 15 points and pulled down six boards in CUA's contest vs. Luther on December 21. Both games took place in Daytona Beach, Fla.
After last week's performance, Briones is averaging 8.6 points and 4.8 rebounds for the season, while shooting a healthy 56 percent from the floor. She shot over 72 percent in Florida as she sank 13 of 18 shots from the field.
Briones and the Cardinals will be back in action on Saturday, January 1 when they host the CUA/Fairfield Inn Holiday Tournament inside the DuFour Gymnasium. CUA will take on Staten Island in the opening round at 6 p.m. with Marymount and Manhattanville to follow at 8.
