Woerner named first team All-Landmark Conference
WASHINGTON – Jill Woerner showed all season long that she is one of the most well rounded players in the entire Landmark Conference. On Friday the CUA sophomore was rewarded for her efforts by being named a first team all-conference selection. Woerner ranks in the top-five in the conference in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, steals and blocked shots.
Woerner leads the Cardinals in scoring (15.9) and rebounding (7.4). She has scored in double figures in every game this season, but two, and totaled five games of double digit rebounds, with a high of 14 coming at Susquehanna in early January. The native of Providence, R.I. has also posted five double-doubles.
Woerner is third in the Landmark Conference in field goal percentage and hit at least half of her attempts in 12 games, topping out with a 70 percent showing in the season opener vs. Eastern Mennonite.
In addition to her scoring and rebounding prowess, Woerner also leads CUA in steals and blocked shots, while ranking second in the conference in both categories. She recorded at least two steals in 19 games and blocked more than one shot ten times.
For her career Woerner has totaled 647 points and 348 rebounds. She established her career-high in points in CUA's win over Stevenson on December 18 with 28.
CUA is currently waiting to see if it is selected for the ECAC Tournament. The Cardinals qualified for the Landmark Conference Tournament for the first time in school history this season, falling to top-ranked Juniata in the semifinals on February 23.
CUA's 17 wins this season are already tied for the fourth most in program history.
