CUA returns home to host two; Pink Zone Game on Friday

WASHINGTON - Fresh off its first-ever win at Moravian, the CUA women's basketball team returns to action this weekend looking to maintain its hold on a top-four spot in the Landmark Conference standings.  On Friday, CUA welcomes Drew to the DuFour Center for the Cardinals annual WBCA Pink Zone Game to help raise breast cancer awareness.  Fans are encouraged to wear pink.

The Cardinals downed Moravian 70-64 on February 4 to earn a crucial league win, before dropping a tough decision at Scranton the very next day and will welcome Drew and Merchant Marine Academy to town this weekend for two more pivotal league contests.

At 6-5 in the Landmark Conference CUA has the same record as Susquehanna, but the Cardinals own the league's tiebreaker, and will play all three of their remaining regular season games inside the DuFour Center.

Last weekend, Katarina Owunna earned her first start since early December and she responded with a pair of strong games.  The sophomore center totaled 28 points on 13 of 20 shooting to go along with 15 rebounds, three steals and three assists.

The Cardinals enter this weekend ranked 29th in America in assists, averaging 16.9 per contest.  CUA has handed out at least 15 helpers in seven straight games, including three games of 20 or more.

After losing six straight games, Drew snapped its skid with a 64-62 win over Susquehanna at home last weekend.  The Rangers enter this weekend tied for sixth in the Landmark Conference standings and will look to end their season on a high-note.  Drew has struggled on offense this season, averaging only 59.6 points per game on 36.8 percent shooting.  The Rangers, who have not scored more than 70 points in a game since late November are led on offense by Danielle Barber (14.4) and Dana Coronato (10.6). Jessica Reid paces Drew in rebounding at 8 per game.

The Mariners of Merchant Marine Academy are still searching for their first Landmark Conference win of the season, as they enter this weekend at 0-11.  Merchant Marine's defense has been its strength, as it ranks third in the league in scoring defense at 62.1 points per game.  The Mariners offense has been another story however as they average only 56.7 points per game and have not hit the 70-point mark in any conference contest.  Merchant Marine's leading scorers are Rebecca Grimes (13.0) and Tamara Kaileh (11.9).
