WASHINGTON - Fresh off its first-ever win in the ECAC Tournament, CUA looks for more this weekend when the Cardinals head to Pennsylvania. CUA will take on Alvernia in Saturday's semifinal with the winner taking on either host Waynesburg or Penn State-Behrend in Sunday's championship.
The Cardinals used a 30-8 run that spanned 16:39 to defeat Wesley 73-55 on Wednesday evening in the quarterfinals. Jill Woerner led CUA with 17 points and was one of four Cardinals in double figures, while Emily Grabiak handed out nine of the team's 26 assists.
Led by Liz Briones with 10 and Holly Janicki with 8 CUA outscored Wesley 23-11 in bench points. Over their last five games the Cardinals have outscored their opponents 116-68 in this category, averaging 23 bench points per contest.
When allowing 69 points or fewer this season, CUA is an impressive 17-1. However, when the Cardinals have given up 70 or more points, their record is only 1-8.
CUA has done a great job at the free throw line of late. In their last six contests the Cardinals are shooting 79 percent at the stripe, having hit at least 70 percent in each game.
With one win this weekend CUA will have the third most victories in program history. With two wins the Cardinals will have won the second most games in school annals.
