preseason women’s basketball poll on Thursday and the
Cardinals were selected fifth with 54 points. Scranton was
picked atop the poll as the Royals garnered 97 points.
CUA returns a large number of contributors from a season ago and
also has a strong group of newcomers to add to the mix. The
Cardinals won 12 games last year, including eight on their home
floor.
The Cardinals finished in the top-half of the Landmark Conference
in scoring offense, field goal percentage defense, three-point
field goal percentage, rebounding, blocked shots, assists,
assist/turnover ratio, defensive rebounds and made
three-pointers.
CUA also cracked the 70-point plateau nine times, with a
season-best of 91 in a win over Trinity College.
Following Scranton in the poll was Moravian with 78 points and
Juniata with 71. Susquehanna came in fourth with 60 points,
followed by CUA, Drew, Goucher and Merchant Marine Academy.
CUA has been hard at work at practice for nearly two weeks. The
Cardinals will tip off the 2010-11 season on Friday, November 19
when they take on Eastern Mennonoite on the campus of Franklin
& Marshall.
