Women's Lax Receives NCAA Tournament Bid
Cardinals will face Christopher Newport on Wednesday

5/4/2008

NCAA Bracket

WASHINGTON- The Catholic University of America women's lacrosse squad (15-4) received a bid to the NCAA Tournament the selection committee announced Sunday evening making this team the first in program history to qualify.  The Cardinals will be playing the USA South Conference Champions the Christopher Newport Captains (13-5) on Wednesday in Newport News, Va.

The selection caps off an outstanding week for the Cardinals.  They are currently on a 10-game win streak and won the Landmark Conference title on Saturday with a 21-10 victory over Goucher College.  The Cards will have an advantage on Wednesday against the Captains after playing them earlier in the season at Cardinal Stadium and coming out on top 17-14.  In that game a big first half as well as five goals from Landmark Conference Player of the Year Kate Robinson contributed to the victory.

Since the Landmark Conference is new, the league champion will not receive an automatic bid into the tourney for the first two years.  Therefore, even with the conference championship the Cardinals were forced to sweat it out for an at-large bid.  CUA is currently ranked #18 in the nation.

The winner of Wednesday's game will face the winner of Rowan and Montclair State on May 10th.

Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
