ECAC names Swarthout a First Team All-Star
WASHINGTON – Mary Swarthout received yet another honor for
her stellar play this past season on Tuesday when she was named a
2012 ECAC All-Star. Swarthout received First Team honors to
go along with First Team All-American, All-Region and
All-Conference accolades.
Swarthout is the first multi-year First Team All-American in
program history, and just the second player to be named a
three-time All-American.
Swarthout had a terrific senior season for the Cardinals, earning
her third consecutive Landmark Conference Player of the Year Award
and her fourth straight First Team All-Conference selection.
Swarthout scored multiple goals in every game she played in 2012,
with a high of six coming vs. No. 1 Salisbury in early March.
She wrapped up her brilliant career in the red and black with 226
goals and 331 points.
A native of Rockville, Md., Swarthout led CUA in goals (69),
assists (30), points (99), draw controls (130), ground balls (65),
and caused turnovers (37) this season. The 130 draw controls
set a new single season record at CUA.
With Swarthout leading the way, CUA finished the 2012 season with
an overall record of 16-6, and a perfect 4-0 mark within the
Landmark Conference. The Cardinals won their fifth
consecutive conference title and at least one game in the NCAA
Tournament for the fifth straight year. CUA also advanced to
its third NCAA Tournament Regional Final in the last five
years.
