Swarthout earns second conference Player of the Week award
WASHINGTON ? For the second time this season, senior Mary Swarthout was named the Landmark Conference Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday. Swarthout scored six goals, handed out 15 assists and finished with 15 draw controls, eight ground balls and five caused turnovers in two games for CUA last week.
Swarthout got things going with a three-goal performance in CUA's last-second loss to No. 5 Trinity on March 21. The All-American also won six draw controls, picked up five ground balls and caused three turnovers. Swarthout scored her three goals on only five shots.
On March 24, Swarthout helped CUA get back in the win column with three goals and four assists in a victory over No. 19 Stevenson. Swarthout tallied nine draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers as well.
For the season, Swarthout has totaled a team-leading 21 points on 16 goals and five assists, to go along with a team-high 32 draw controls and eight caused turnovers. She has also picked up 16 ground balls.
Swarthout and the Cardinals return to action on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to face No. 10 ranked Messiah in a 4 p.m. showdown.
