CUA honored for academic success for sixth straight year

WASHINGTON – For the sixth straight year, the CUA women's lacrosse team has been honored as an IWLCA Academic Squad, it was recently announced.  In order to be eligible, a team must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.  The Cardinals won their fifth straight Landmark Conference title last season and advanced to the Regional Final of the NCAA Tournament.

CUA finished the 2012 season with a record of 16-6, which included its fourth unbeaten conference regular season in the last five years.  The Cardinals then defeated Christopher Newport and University of Redlands in the NCAA Tournament to advance to the Regional Final.

Individually, Mary Swarthout became the first women's lacrosse player in school history to be named a two-time First Team All-American, while four Cardinals received All-Region honors and six were named All-Conference.

In all, 61 Division III schools were recognized with Academic Squad honors.  CUA's Mallory Vogel was named the 2012 IWLCA Division III Scholar Athlete of the Year back in June.
