Cardinals ranked No. 11 in IWLCA preseason poll

WASHINGTON – Winners of four straight Landmark Conference championships, the CUA women's lacrosse team enters the 2012 season ranked No. 11 in the IWLCA preseason poll.  The Cardinals received 177 points, 16 more than No. 12 Stevens.

CUA went 15-4 a season ago, including a 4-0 march through Landmark Conference play.  The Cardinals won their fourth straight conference title and also won an NCAA Tournament game for the fourth straight season.

Senior Mary Swarthout leads a talented group of returners, after earning First Team All-American status in 2011.  Along with Swarthout, Head Coach Meghan McDonogh returns All-Conference performers Meghan Murray, Gabby Sena and Megan Gormley.

Gettysburg sits atop the poll with 396 points and 17 first place votes.  The College of New Jersey is next with 365 points and 3 first place votes, followed by Cortland, Bowdoin and Franklin & Marshall.

CUA is scheduled to play seven teams featured in the preseason poll, including No. 1 Gettysburg.

The Cardinals are currently hard at work in preseason practice.  CUA gets its 2012 season underway with a home game vs. Mary Washington, which is ranked No. 17 in the preseason poll, on February 29.  Start time is set for 3:30 p.m.
