SELINSGROVE, Pa. – CUA suffered a loss to Susquehanna 16-9 in the Landmark Conference championship on Saturday. The Cardinals end their season with an 8-10 overall record and 3-1 in the conference.
The Crusaders outshot the Cardinals 43-29 and scooped up 29 groundballs and CUA picked up 19.
Two minutes later, Lindsay Brophy scored CUA's second goal.
The Crusaders scored three more goals, before Madeline Nowakowski cut the lead in half for CUA.
With 22 seconds remaining in the half, Michelle McGinniss netted her sixth goal of the game for the Crusaders to end the half, 9-4.
A Crusader foul at the 28:07 mark in the second half allowed Miller to score her first of the game on a free position shot.
Susquehanna scored four more goals in six minutes including back-to-back goals by Annie McElaney to increase the Crusaders lead, 13-5. CUA answered with back-to-back goals by Brophy and Theresa Ciletti.
The Crusaders managed to score three more goals in five minutes to increase their lead, 16-7.
The Cardinals netter two goals in the last 10 minutes of the game, but the damage was done and the Crusaders won their first Landmark Conference championship, 16-9.
Emily Stankaitis earned the win in goal for Susquehanna stopping 11 shots and Tricia Pehnke stopped 18 for CUA.
