Cardinals sweep weekly awards from Landmark Conference

WASHINGTON – CUA swept the weekly awards from the Landmark Conference on Monday, with Caroline DiBartolomeo earning Offensive Player of the Week honors, and classmate Tricia Pehnke receiving Defensive accolades. This is the third straight week in which a CUA player has earned a weekly honor after Lindsay Brophy captured the previous two Offensive awards.

DiBartolomeo scored 11 goals in two wins last week, beginning with six goals on only nine shots, and one ground ball in a 16-10 win over St. Mary’s on April 2.

On Saturday, DiBartolomeo found the back of the net five times, to go along with a ground ball, a draw control and caused turnover as the Cardinals moved to 2-0 in the Landmark Conference by downing Drew.

For the season, DiBartolomeo has scored 26 goals, and totaled 30 points, 23 ground balls and 11 draw controls.

Pehnke played all 60 minutes against St. Mary’s, sending back 13 shots, including eight after halftime, and added a ground ball and two caused turnovers.

She then sent back nine more shots at Drew, playing 37 minutes, before giving way to Yasmeen Ajdari once the Cards went in front by 10 goals. Pehnke also scooped up two ground balls against the Rangers.

Pehnke has played 460 minutes in goal thus far this season, stopping exactly 100 shots and posting a .529 save percentage.

CUA and its award winners return to the field on Thursday afternoon when the Cardinals face nationally ranked Cortland State in Allentown, Pa. Start time is set for 1 p.m.

The Cards then make the short trip north to face Goucher on Saturday at 1.
