Cardinals ranked 13th in Lacrosse Magazine preseason poll
WASHINGTON – Five-time defending Landmark Conference champion CUA has been selected No. 13 in this year's Lacrosse Magazine preseason top 20 rankings, announced on Thursday. The Cardinals are coming off a season in which they won 16 games, went unbeaten in the conference, and advanced to their third NCAA Regional Final in the last five seasons.
CUA placed six student-athletes on the All-Conference Teams last season, and will return two in 2013, including Rookie of the Year Lindsay Brophy.
The Cardinals went a perfect 4-0 in the Landmark Conference during the regular season and then won a pair of conference tournament games to earn their fifth straight NCAA Tournament bid.
CUA has won at least one NCAA Tournament game in each of the last five seasons, and won two last year, downing Christopher Newport and University of Redlands. The Cards finished the season ranked 11th in the IWLCA poll and increased their win total to 78 in the last five seasons.
The Cardinals will face seven teams in 2013 who are ranked in the preseason poll, including No. 1 Trinity (Conn.). CUA took on nine nationally ranked foes a season ago.
CUA will begin classes and practices later this month, before getting the season underway on Tuesday, February 26 with a home game vs. Frostburg State. Start time is set for 6 p.m.
