Cardinals selected atop Landmark Conference preseason poll
WASHINGTON – Five-time defending conference champion CUA
has been selected atop the 2013 Landmark Conference preseason poll,
announced on Wednesday. The Cardinals, who are nationally ranked in
two preseason polls, went 16-6 a season ago, including a perfect
4-0 march through the conference regular season, and advanced to
their third NCAA Regional Final in the last five seasons.
Two All-Landmark Conference selections return for CUA in 2013,
including the reigning Rookie of the Year Lindsay Brophy, and
Tricia Pehnke.
The Cardinals also bring back a seasoned group of veterans,
particularly on defense.
CUA is ranked 11th by the
IWLCA and 13th in the
Lacrosse Magazine poll. The Cards will face a challenging
schedule, which includes seven teams who are nationally ranked in
preseason polls, led by defending national champion Trinity
(Conn.).
CUA garnered 37 points and three first place votes in the
preseason poll, while second place Susquehanna earned 34 points.
Scranton (24), Drew (17) and Goucher (8) round things out.
CUA is currently hard at work in practice, with an eye towards its
season opener on Tuesday, February 26 when the Cardinals welcome
Frostburg State to town. Start time is set for 6 p.m.
