WASHINGTON - The Catholic University women's lacrosse team has been predicted to finish second in the Landmark this season, according to the coaches preseason poll released today.
The Cardinals received three first place votes and finished with 49 total points, as Susquehanna, the defending Landmark champions were picked to defend their title, receving four first place votes and collecting 54 total points.
Catholic (8-10, 3-1) head coach Meghan McDonogh welcomes a very talented class of newcomers to add to an already strong core of returning players. The Cardinals welcome back five of the team's top six goal scorers from a year ago that combine for 159 goals. Catholic will face three preseason top-10 teams, including the defending National Champion, Salisbury, in the second game of the season. Although the team features just two seniors, the Cardinals will find a great deal of leadership from juniors Lindsay Brophy and Caroline DiBartolomeo, who were both named IWLCA All-Region in 2013.
Catholic opens the season on Tuesday, Feb. 25 when they travel to Frostburg St. for a 6:00 p.m. start time. CUA will have seven non-conference games to prepare for the start of Landmark action which begins on Saturday, Mar. 29 at Merchant Marine Academy, who was picked to finish last in the conference.
