WASHINGTON - The Catholic University women's lacrosse team opened up Landmark Conference action with a 19-0 win at U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday, March 29 in Kings Point, N.Y.
Theresa Ciletti led the Cardinals with three goals, while Jenna Van Middelem and Lindsay Brophy each handed out four assists on the afternoon. The Cardinals were very unselfish, as 12 of the team's 19 goals were assisted.
Alexis Bosilovic had a game-high eight draw controls, as CUA had a dominant 16-5 advantage from the circle.
Catholic struck early, as Ciletti notched her first goal of the game at 29:01 to put the visitors up 1-0. The Cardinals would never look back, going up 15-0 at the half on goals from Van Middelem, Nicole Laitner, Madeline Wilson, Anna Stumme, Bosilovic, Madeline Nowakowski, Brophy, and Laura Dunn.
CUA held the advantage in every statistical category, and held the Mariners to just one shot attempt on the day. The Cardinals scooped up 21 groundballs to USMMA's 10, and was successful on all six clear attempts, while limiting the Mariners to just 1 of 14 tries.
The Cardinals return to action on Wednesday, April 2 when the welcome York (Pa.) to Cardinal Stadium for a non-conference matchup slated to begin at 4:00 p.m.
