WASHINGTON - The Catholic University women's lacrosse team improved to 3-0 in the Landmark with a 21-6 win over Goucher in Cardinal Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
With the win, the Cardinals clinch a spot in the semifinals of the Landmark Tournament on April 30th.
The Cardinals (7-4) were led offensively by Anna Stumme, Madeline Wilson, and Jenna Van Middelem with four goals each, while Clair Schmitzer, Caroline DiBartolomeo and Nicole Laitner all chipped in two goals.
Alexis Bosilovic recorded a career-high 11 draw controls, helping the Cardinals dominate the center circle with 20 draw controls to Goucher's nine.
Van Middelem scored just over a minute into the game on an unassisted goal to take the early lead, however the Gophers (7-6) responded with back-to-back goals to go up 2-1 at the 27:50 mark.
Wilson and Schmitzer each scored once to regain the lead before Hannah Mae Brown tied things up with 20:21 on the clock at 3-3.
Catholic then went on a 5-0 run to break the game open over the final 13 minutes of the half on goals from Van Middelem, Stumme, Schmitzer, Wilson and Laitner. Brown found the back of the net at 2:08 left for Goucher to cut the lead in half 8-4 heading into halftime.
Stumme and Laitner opened the second half of play with goals in the first minute of action to push the lead to 10-4. Erin Reifsnyder connected on a free position shot for Goucher for a 10-5 score at 27:44.
Less than a minute later, Van Middelem scored her third goal of the day to ignite a 11-1 run to finish the game.
CUA forced 25 Gopher turnovers and held a 30-22 advantage in ground balls. The Cardinals were 16 for 18 on clear attempts and dominated Goucher in shots, 46 to 17.
Bosilivic and Brandenburg rounded out the scoring for Catholic with goals in the second half.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, April 12 when they travel to Selinsgrove, Pa. for a Landmark matchup with Susquehanna at 1:00 p.m. Both squads are 3-0 in the conference.
