Cardinals Clinch Home Playoff Game With 18-1 Win at Elizabethtown

WASHINGTON - Catholic had 11 players find the back of the net and five more tally a point off of assists as the Cardinals won 18-1 on the road at Elizabethtown on Thursday afternoon.

Anastasia Brandenburg led all scorers with three goals and an assist, while Allie Bond, Alexis Bosilovic, Lindsay Brophy, Madeline Wilson, and Jenna Van Middelem each scored twice. Caroline DiBartolomeo caused six turnovers to go with a team-high five ground balls.

Brophy got things started with a goal just 15 seconds into the game to take an early lead. Laura Dunn connected on a free position attempt with 29:09 on the clock, proving to be the game-winning goal.

Brandenburg scored back to back goals in under a minute as CUA seized to a 10-0 lead by the 18:48 mark.

Emily Merkel handed out her first career assist to Bosilovic for a 12-0 lead, just before Bond scored her first collegiate goal off of an assist from Clair Schmitzer for a 13-0 halftime lead.

Bosilovic and Wilson took advantage of E-Town yellow cards and scored on man-up posessions, however the Blue Jays avoided the shutout on a goal with 15:55 to play.

Mary Clare Regan, Victoria Sudjian, and Bond rounded out the final scoring for the Cardinals for the final 18-1 margin.

Yasmeen Ajdari and Tricia Pehnke split time in between the pipes and combined for five saves and two ground balls.

With the win, the Cardinals have clinched a home playoff game in the Landmark Conference semifinals, slated for Wednesday, April 30th. Before that, Catholic will host Drew in the final regular season game this Saturday at 11:00 a.m. on Senior Day for the Class of 2014.
