WASHINGTON - Senior captain Amanda Lewis (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) made nine saves and allowed only one second-half goal to help Catholic clamp down and defeat Ohio Wesleyan, 11-5, Saturday afternoon at DuFour Field.
Junior Anna Gateau (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) led the offensive attack with a game-high four goals. Freshman Kristen Wisniewski (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine), at left, added three goals to help Catholic.
Courtland Smith led Ohio Wesleyan with two goals and teammate Carrie Williams added a goal and an assist.
Gateau opened the scoring with her unassisted tally at the 23:13 mark. OWU then took a 2-1 lead for their first and last lead of the game. CUA would then hold the Battling Bishops scoreless for 14 minutes as the Cardinals built a 5-2 lead. The teams would trade goals to end the first half at 7-4.
Lewis made four saves in the first half and five in the second as Catholic added three insurance goals late in the game to secure the win. Her counterpart, Jody Dickinson made 20 saves in goal for Ohio Wesleyan.
The Cardinals get back to action on Tuesday, April 8, with a non-league game at DuFour Field with Frostburg State at 4 p.m.
