Mary Washington 16, Catholic 8 March 21, 2002

WASHINGTON - Catholic couldn't find momentum early in the second half as Mary Washington scored the six unanswered goals to open the second stanza as the Eagles handed CUA a 16-8 loss in a CAC match Thursday at DuFour Field.

Kami McNinch's goal with 1:40 remaining in the first half gave MWC a 5-4 lead but Ali Jarden (Red Bank, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) tied it up with her unassisted tally just 10 seconds later.

With the score tied 5-5 at the half, Jennifer Goon's two goals ignited a seven-minute, six-goal spurt for the Eagles. Senior Ann Lawall (Newtown, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) broke the scoring draught for Catholic with her tally at the 19:27 mark.

Briana Gervat led all scorers with five goals and teammate Pam Kramer had two goals and three assists to lead the Eagles (2-2, 1-0 CAC).

Lawall added two assists and senior Kate Abbonizio (Upper Darby, Pa./Bishop Pendergrast) tallied three times while freshman Kristen Wisniewski (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) added two goals.

Catholic returns to action as they travel to Susquehanna on Saturday in a non-league game at 1 p.m.
