WASHINGTON - Catholic broke out of a three-game losing streak by downing Virginia Wesleyan 18-11 on Wednesday afternoon at DuFour Field.
Sophomore Colleen Finnerty (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore), junior Anna Gateau (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's), and freshman Megan Willet (Arnold, Md./St. Mary's) scored three goals apiece to lead Catholic. Gateau added two assists for a game-high five points.
Up 6-4 midway through the first half, the Cardinals scored five unanswered goals to end the first half.
Virginia Wesleyan tried to rally with four straight to open the second half but that would be as close as the Marlins would get. Meagan DiCave and Anne Marie Nash led Virginia Wesleyan with four goals apiece.
Senior goalie Amanda Lewis (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) posted 14 stops while VWC's duo of Janine Swanson and Robin Smith combined to make 18 saves.
The Cardinals get back to action on Tuesday, April 2, with a CAC game with the Sea Gulls of Salisbury at 4 p.m.
