CUA DEFEATS CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT, 12-8

WASHINGTON-- Courtney Murray scored four goals as Catholic University defeated Christopher Newport, 12-8.

CUA (3-2) outscored CNU 6-5 in the first half as the Cardinals outshot the Captains, 19-12. Marcy Cuneo scored twice and Krista Piotrowski, Jessie Euler, and Sheryl Gateau scored a goal apiece. Kerin Sweeney also had a goal and Euler led CUA with two assists.

In the second half, the Cardinals increased their lead to 7-5 after Cuneo scored on a free position shot. The Captains pulled to within a goal on an unassisted Kristin Conques goal, but Courtney Murray answered with an unassisted goal 14 seconds later for an 8-6 CUA advantage. Murray scored her final two goals on free position shots while Euler scored the last goal off a Cuneo assist. Courtney Tipping earned the win in goal and garnered six saves in the game.

The Cardinals return to CAC play on Saturday, March 18 when they host York at 1:00 p.m.
