Thornton Garners All-American Honors
WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 20, 2005) - CUA Senior Christine Thornton
was named one of 48 athletes around the nation who earned
All-American honors for her play during the 2005 lacrosse season.
She is the first Catholic University of America lacrosse player to
garner such an accolade from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse
Coaches Association.
Thornton (Bala Cynwyd, Pa./Country Day Sacred Heart), a third-team
selection, also made her debut on the IWLCA/U.S. Lacrosse South
Atlantic All-Regional first team and earned All-Capital Athletic
Conference recognition. She controlled the midfield, tallying 15
goals, 15 assists, a team-high 82 ground balls and 33 caused
turnovers. A midfielder and co-captain, Thornton led the CAC in
ground balls per game, ranked fourth in caused turnovers per game
and tied for fifth in game-winning goals.
The CUA women's lacrosse team posted a 3-2 record against CAC foes
this season - its best since the 1998 inaugural season - and earned
the second seed in the CAC Tournament for the first time in program
history. The team also appeared in the Intercollegiate Women's
Lacrosse Coaches Association top 20 poll (19th) for three weeks and
extended its record-breaking win streak to nine.
