CUA Loses a Close One to #9 Eagles
Euler has five goals for the game
Fredericksburg, Va.- The Catholic University women's lacrosse team (4-3, 1-2 CAC) came up short against their third ranked opponent of the 2007 season. The squad fell 16-13 to the #9 Mary Washington Eagles (7-1, 3-0 CAC). Jessie Euler (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) scored five goals in a game where the Cards were up by as much as five at one point but couldn't hold on.
Euler scored the first goal of the game just a minute in off of a pass from Jackie Seward (Freehold, N.J./St. John Vianney). Mary Washington matched them but then CUA rattled off three more to go up 4-1. Midway through the half the Cards had dominated on the offensive end with three more goals to UMW's one to be up 7-2. However, that would be the end of their good fortune as the Eagles took over for the remaining ten minutes and score six unanswered goals to make it 8-7 at the break.
Again, CUA came out and found the back of the cage in the second half with three scores including one goal by Euler and two assists. However, just like the first half Mary Washington came back and went on a tear for five straight goals to make the score 13-10. From that point on the teams alternated scores and the Cardinals could never get up on the Eagles eventually falling 16-13.
Euler led all scorers with five goals and three assists for eight points. Courtney Murray (Langhorne, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) continued to play well with three goals while Seward added a pair herself. Kaitlyn Barker led the Eagles with four. CUA outshot Mary Washington 31-28 and had three less turnovers.
CUA will play this Sunday at Christopher Newport. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
