Cardinals Rout Bearcats 20-5
CUA on a seven-game win streak
WASHINGTON - The Catholic University women's lacrosse squad made history with a 20-5 victory over the St. Vincent Bearcats (4-3) Saturday afternoon. CUA has now tied its record for wins in a season with 11, the record was set in 2005. With the win the Cardinals go into their final game of the season with a record of 11-3.
The Cardinals were dominant in the first half scoring eleven goals and holding the Bearcats scoreless. CUA won almost every draw control and disrupted all but one of St. Vicent's clears. Jackie Seward (Freehold, N.J./St. John Vianney) and Kate Robinson (Emmitsburg, Md./Catoctin) each had hat tricks in the half while senior captain Krista Piotrowski (Havertown, Pa./Sacred Heart) had a goal and an assist.
The Bearcats struck first in the second half with a goal by Jenna Moon in the opening minutes. However the Robinson/Piotrowski connection was in full effect as they went down and scored on the draw control to make it 12-1. Moon scored another off of a free position and a third later in the half but CUA would continue to overpower the Bearcats.
CUA scored nine goals in the second half including pairs from Robinson, Marcy Cuneo (Haddonfield, N.J./Camden Catholic) and Caitlin O'Neill (Germantown, Md./Holy Child). Robinson and Piotrowski also each notched two assists. After a small defensive let down to end the game the Cards came away with the 20-5 victory.
CUA outshot St. Vincent 38-11 and had two fewer turnovers as well as seven more groundballs. The Cards also won 22 of 27 draw controls. Melissa Brashear (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic ) had the win in goal with three saves for the game.
The Cards will travel to Randolph Macon for their final game of the season on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
