Cardinals Lose to #19 McDaniel
Cards lead at the half 7-5
WESTMINSTER, Md. - The Catholic University women's lacrosse squad lost its second game of the season to a ranked team as it fell 19-13 to the #19 McDaniel College Green Terror (4-0). With the loss the Cards fall to 4-2 on the season.
Sparked by a 4-0 run in the first half, CUA controlled the first 30 minutes. Kate Robinson (Emmitsburg, Md./Catoctin) started the scoring at 28:22 answering McDaniel's opening score. After the Green Terror added one more the Cards came back with four goals in a five-minute span including Robinson's second of the game. McDaniel stopped the run at 18:26 but once again the Cards managed to find the back of the cage adding two more making it 7-5 in favor of the Cardinals going into the break.
The second half was not as successful for CUA despite opening the half with another unassisted Robinson score. In the first four minutes McDaniel put two more away and allowed Robinson to get it past the keeper before beginning a 10-0 run that would span ten minutes. At 6:35 Meghan Sabo (Bell Canyon, Calif./Louisville) finally stopped the bleeding followed by a score from Caitlin O'Neill (Germantown, Md./Holy Child) but the damage had been done. Robinson scored CUA's two final goals to match the pair put up by the Green Terror to make the final 19-13.
Robinson led the Cards with six goals as well as one assist in the contest while Sabo added three points. CUA was just 1-9 on free position attempts but did have fewer turnovers. On defense, O'Neill notched four caused turnovers and Melissa Brashear (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic ) had nine saves in goal.
The Cards will travel to Roanoke on Sunday for a 2 p.m., contest.
