Sabo's Six Spark CUA Win
Cards move to 2-0 on the season
GREENSBORO, N.C.- The Catholic University women's lacrosse squad (2-0) started out its spring break trip with a bang Sunday afternoon as it defeated Greensboro College (0-5) 25-11. After keeping it close in the first, the Cards made some runs in the second and freshman Meghan Sabo (Bell Canyon, Calif./Louisville) scored five goals to get the win.
GC struck first but the Cards quickly rebounded and took over notching a trio of goals in the first 15 minutes. Greensboro scored one more but right away Caroline Taltavull (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) connected on a free position shot and Laura Haring (Mt. Sinai, N.Y./Mt. Sinai) found the back of the cage. After GC managed two more, once again Taltavull and Haring went back to back to keep the lead. Two more CUA goals made it 9-6 at the break.
The Cards came out fired up in the second half scoring quick unassisted tallies from Jackie Lodge (Bethesda, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) and Sabo. After GC scored one the Cardinals took over the game with an 11-goal run including four from Sabo and two from Haring. From that point on there was no way for Greensboro to get back into it making the final 25-11.
Sabo led the way with six points for the Cards while both Haring and Kate Robinson (Emmitsburg, Md./Catoctin) added five. Melissa Brashear (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) took the win in goal with five saves in 55 minutes while freshman Caitlin Farley (Bowie, Md./Georgetown Visitation) had one save in eight minutes in the cage.
The Cards will play at Guilford on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
