Robinson's Eight Keeps #19 CUA Rolling
Cardinals defeat Marymount 18-9
ARLINGTON, Va. - The Catholic University women's lacrosse team (11-4) continued on its six-game win streak Wednesday with an 18-9 non-conference victory over the Marymount University Saints (7-7). From mid-season on, sophomore Kate Robinson (Emmitsburg, Md./Catoctin ) has been tying up upping her goal total every game. On Wednesday she scored eight in a season best performance.
CUA had a huge first half scoring 11 goals to Marymount's one. The Cards started the game on an 8-0 run including four Robinson goals during the rally. Marymount finally added on at the 5:47 mark but CUA answered with three more before the break to make it 11-1 at halftime.
The second half was played almost evenly but luckily the Cardinals had established such a lead there was no chance for Marymount to catch up. The squads traded goals throughout the half as the Cards kept a solid distance. The Saints scored three goals to end the game but it was not enough making the final 18-9.
Robinson led CUA with eight goals while Caitlin O'Neill (Germantown, Md./Holy Child), Kate Narzikul (Philadelphia, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy), Kelly Ryan (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur) and Becky Borrell (Oreland, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) each had two. On defense Caroline Taltavull (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) led the way with five ground balls and two caused turnovers. The Cards out shot the Saints 33-17 but had four fewer saves.
The Cards will travel to Scranton this Saturday for a Landmark Conference game. The contest is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
