Women's Lacrosse Downs Stevenson
OWINGS MILL, Md.- Led by the monstrous offensive efforts of Laura Haring (Mt. Sinai, N.Y./Mt. Sinai), the CUA women's lacrosse team defeated Stevenson University 12-11 at the Caves Athletics Complex Saturday afternoon. With the win, the No. 13 Cardinals improve to 6-2 on the season.
Haring poured in four goals and one assist in the victory. Junior Kate Robinson (Emmitsburg, Md./Catoctin) chipped in two goals and two assists, coupled with seven draw controls. Mary Swarthout (Rockville, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) led the Cards with six groundballs, while Caroline Taltavull (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) added four. Goaltender Melissa Brashear (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) had another busy afternoon in the net, recording 10 saves in the win.
CUA jumped out to a 7-3 lead over the Mustangs in the first half, with Haring scoring three of her four goals in the opening twenty minutes. Stevenson came charging back in the second stanza, outshooting the Cardinals 18-11. CUA was able to hold on to their advantage, however, and a Katie Miller (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville High) goal at the six minute mark that secured the 12-11 win.
The Cards return to the field on Tuesday, March 24th, as they will travel to Dickinson for a 4 p.m., match up.
