CUA Drops 9-8 Decision to McDaniel
WESTMINSTER, Md.- After being outscored 4-2 in the second half, the CUA women's lacrosse team fell to McDaniel College on the road Friday afternoon. The Cardinals drop to 1-5 on the year, while the Green Terror improve to 6-1.
Catholic nabbed the first lead of the game just eighteen seconds in with a Kate Narzikul goal off a dish from Mary Swarthout. Lindsay Davenport and Swarthout helped stretch out the lead by tallying one goal each at the 22 minute mark. Brittany Baer helped get Green Terror on the board at the 21 minute mark, but Katie Sheild converted off a pass from Swarthout to extend the CUA lead even further. Despite a 4-2 McDaniel run at the end of the first half, the Cardinals held on to a 6-5 advantage by halftime.
Narzikul opened up the scoring in the second stanza by finishing a pass from Caroline Tultavull for her third goal of the afternoon. The Green Terror then recorded back-to-back goals to knot the game at 7-7. Catholic's Christina Rogers netted her second of the afternoon to give the Cards an 8-7 edge, but McDaniel finished the game with two unanswered goals, sealing the 9-8 win.
Narzikul finished the game with a team-high three goals and one assist, while Swarthout added one goal, two helpers, and four groundballs. Rogers contributed two goals, while Davenport and Shields rounded out the scoring with two apiece. Davenport also tallied two caused turnovers and two groundballs in the loss. Goaltender Melissa Brashear had another busy night, recording 12 saves in the net.
Catholic University will host Colorado College on Sunday, March 28. Game time is set for 11 a.m.
