Women's Lax Dominates Colorado, 14-7
WASHINGTON- The CUA women’s lacrosse team earned a decisive 14-7 victory over visiting Colorado College Sunday afternoon at Cardinal Stadium. With the win, the Cards improve to 2-5 overall, while the Tigers fall to 5-2.
CUA came out running on all cylinders in the first half, opening with three consecutive goals from Mary Swarthout, Kelly Ryan, and Laura Haring. Colorado answered by firing in three goals of their own to lock the score at 3-3. The Cardinals then tightened up their defensive efforts, holding the Tigers scoreless for the remainder of the period while also blasting six additional goals into the net. Caroline Tultavull led the defense with 5 caused turnovers throughout the game, along with Swarthout who possessed 7 ground balls.
Throughout the game the Cards had 7 different players score and 5 players having 3 points or more. Narzikul, Buonpastore, and Ryan all went 2 for 2, with freshmen Katie Sheilds and Meg Brady each posting a goal of their own. Eight out of 14 goals scored by the Cardinals were assisted.
In goal for the Cardinals, Melissa Brashear had 12 saves stopping the Tigers at 7 goals total. Becky Borrell added 4 ground balls to the contest helping the defense stay strong through the second half with the Tigers only adding 2 more goals to the competition.
