Brady's Seven Sparks CUA Win
WASHINGTON- Sophomore Meg Brady exploded for seven goals Wednesday afternoon, leading the Cardinals to a dominating 20-6 win over conference foe Goucher College at Cardinal Stadium.
Brady, a native of Ijamsville, Md., recorded seven goals and three draw controls in the win. Teammates Mary Swarthout and Laura Haring also had stellar performances, recording four and three goals, respectively.
The Cards grabbed an early 2-0 lead after Swarthout and Haring each scored within the first six minutes. Colleen Cole then helped get Goucher on the board by recording back-to-back goals for the visitors. Sparked by a pair of goals from Brady, CUA responded by firing in seven consecutive to take a 9-2 lead. Goucher finally answered by scoring at the seven minute mark, but the Brady put an exclamation point on the first half with two goals to end the period.
The two teams traded goals for the first few minutes of the second stanza, as Goucher clawed their way to within seven. CUA then turned up the heat by holding their opponent scoreless in the final 23 minutes of play. The squad used a balanced attack to record the last seven goals of the game to seal the 20-6 win.
While Brady, Swarthout, and Haring had excellent showings, five other Cardinals found the back of the net in the victory. Kate Narzikul added two, to go along with three draws and one caused turnover. Kelly Ryan, Sarah Lindell, Katie Miller, and Lauren Sheils also added one goal apiece.
On the defensive end, Lindsay Davenport, Kelly Ryan, Meg Murray, and Meg Paul combined for nine turnovers. Melissa Brashear also tallied six saves in the net, as her record improves to 6-6 on the year.
CUA will look to continue their winning ways as they host Landmark foe Susquehanna University on Saturday, April 17. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
