Brady's OT Goal Propels Women's Lax, 10-9
GLASSBORO, N.J.- Catholic University sophomore Meghan Brady notched three goals in Tuesday's women's lacrosse victory over Rowan, but none was more important than the game-winner in the overtime period.
Brady first netted the game-tying goal with 51 seconds left in the second period, sending the teams into overtime. She then broke the 9-9 deadlock at 63:09 to give the 17th-ranked Cardinals the win. Neither squad led by more than two throughout the game.
Rowan tallied the first goal of the night, but CUA's Caroline Taltavull and Lindsay Davenport gave the Cards a 2-1 edge with back-to-back goals. The Profs then recorded three straight to take a 4-2 lead, but Brady brought the Cards within one by chipping in her first goal of the night with 26 seconds left in the first.
The battle continued in the second half as Catholic nabbed the lead after Kelly Ryan and Taltavull each found the back of the net. Rowan evened up the score at the 26 minute mark, but Katie Buonpastore and Kate Narzikul netted goals to put CUA ahead once again.
The Profs managed a 4-1 run toward the end of the second period, and Rowan took the lead off an Alayna Morris goal at the 7 minute mark. Ryan then connected with Brady with under a minute to play to send the teams into OT. Brady completed her hat trick and gave the Cards the win with her final goal three minutes into the extra period.
Along with three goals, Brady also dished out one assist and added two draw controls. Taltavull netted two goals, and recorded three groundballs and two caused turnovers. Mary Swarthout managed five draw controls, one assist, two groundballs, and one caused tunover in the win.
Goaltender Gab Sena earned her first victory of the year, making huge stops for the Cardinals in second half. She totaled three saves in the win.
CUA will return to action on Saturday, April 24, as they travel to Moravian College for a 12:00 p.m., conference match-up.
