Women's Laxers Sweep Player of the Week
WASHINGTON- The Landmark Conference announced Monday that Mary Swarthout and Melissa Brashear have been selected as Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, after leading the women's lacrosse team to its third conference title in as many years this week.
Swarthout's well-rounded play allowed the Cards to go 2-0 in the semi-final game against Goucher and championship game against Drew. The sophomore netted the first two goals in the championship game to go along with two draw controls, two caused turnovers, and a ground ball. Earlier in the week, Swarthout managed a hat trick, one assist, three draw controls, and a pair of ground balls. She finished third in the conference in points per game.
Brashear led the defensive charge in Catholic's 2-0 week. In the championship win over Drew, the senior matched her season high of 17 saves while allowing just three goals. She also scooped up three ground balls in that game. In CUA's semi-final win over Goucher, Brashear managed two saves. She had a 5.00 goals against average and a .731 save percentage for the week, while also contributing three ground balls.
