Landmark Conference names Borrell Defensive POW

WASHINGTON – Senior Becky Borrell was named the Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, one day after helping lead CUA to a 10-5 road victory over Dickinson.  Borrell registered five ground balls, four caused turnovers and an assist in the Cardinals win.

Borrell spearheaded a CUA defense that held Dickinson to just one goal and two shots in the second half of Sunday's game.  The teams were tied at four at intermission and CUA then took over in the second half, scoring six of the game's final seven goals.

One of the top defenders in the entire nation, Borrell led CUA in ground balls and caused turnovers, while her assist went to Kate Robinson who scored with 16:28 remaining in the game to put the Cardinals on top 7-5.

Borrell and the No. 14 Cardinals will be back in action on Saturday, March 19 when they play host to No. 11 Washington & Lee inside Cardinal Stadium.  The opening draw control is slated for 1 p.m.
