CUA sweeps conference awards for second straight week
WASHINGTON – For the second straight week the CUA women's lacrosse team has swept the Landmark Conference awards. This time it was Katie Buonpastore and Gabby Sena who earned Offensive and Defensive honors, respectively. This comes on the heels of Mary Swarthout and Kate Robinson sweeping the awards a week ago.
In CUA's two wins last week Buonpastore totaled seven goals, three assists, three ground balls and a caused turnover. In the Cardinals victory at Haverford on April 7 she found the back of the net three times and also dished out two assists and picked up a pair of GBs. Two of her goals came in the first half as CUA opened up a 9-3 lead at halftime.
Buonpastore then backed that up with a four-goal performance in CUA's 18-8 win at Goucher on April 9. Three of her goals were scored in the second half to help the Cardinals pull away and remain unbeaten on the road.
For Sena, she stopped 17 shots in the Cardinals two games and posted a save percentage of .472, while facing 49 shots in 120 minutes of action. The junior sent back a season-best 15 shots in CUA's win at Goucher, including nine in the second half.
Sena began the week with two saves vs. Haverford and for the season has stopped 79 shots in nearly 590 minutes, to go along with a save percentage of .449.
CUA and its two latest award winners have a big week ahead, beginning with a showdown at No. 6 Gettysburg on Tuesday evening. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
On Saturday the Cardinals then return home to take on Susquehanna in a Landmark Conference contest. The opening draw from inside Cardinal Stadium is set for noon.
