Swarthout named first team All-American for a second time
WASHINGTON – For the second time in a week Mary Swarthout has been named a First Team All-American, this time from synapsesports.com. Swarthout was honored by USACOLLEGELACROSSE.com earlier this week as an All-American and was also selected to the All-Region and All-Landmark Conference Teams this season.
Swarthout was nearly unstoppable for the Cardinals all season long. She led the team in goals (65), points (92), ground balls (52) and draw controls (57), while ranking second in caused turnovers (25) and third in assists (27). The Maryland native led the Landmark Conference in points and game-winning goals (4).
A three-time Landmark Conference Player of the Week, Swarthout received First Team All-Conference and All-Region recognition and was named the conference's Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. She scored at least three goals 13 times.
This marks the third straight season that Swarthout received All-American recognition. In 2010 she was named to the third team by the IWLCA, while in 2009 womenslacrosse.com honored her as an All-American.
