Landmark Conference names Swarthout Player of the Week
WASHINGTON – Mary Swarthout was named the Landmark Conference Player of the Week on Monday after totaling eight points in CUA's 15-13 victory over No. 11 Washington & Lee this past weekend. This is the second consecutive week a Cardinal has earned a weekly award after Becky Borrell was named Defensive Player of the Week last Monday.
Swarthout scored three goals and handed out five assists vs. the Generals. She also won five draw controls, picked up a pair of ground balls and caused a turnover.
CUA led Saturday's game 6-5 at halftime and Swarthout saw to it that the Cardinals remained in front with a terrific second half performance. The junior scored once and assisted on four goals, including one to Meghan Brady to put CUA on top 9-7 with 22:09 remaining.
For the season Swarthout has scored 16 points on six goals and a team-leading ten assists. She has also scooped up eight ground balls, won 13 draw controls and caused three turnovers.
Swarthout and the Cardinals return to action on Wednesday evening with a trip to take on No. 4 Gettysburg. The opening draw is slated for 5:30 p.m.
