Strong second half carries CUA past Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. – CUA outscored Dickinson 6-1 in the second half en route to a 10-5 win over the Red Devis (3-4) on Sunday afternoon.  Mary Swarthout totaled four points for CUA (2-1) and Meghan Brady added a pair of goals, including the game-winner.

Kelly Ryan put CUA up 1-0 with a goal just 1:08 into the contest.  The score remained that way for the next 13 minutes until Dickinson's Lindsay Edgereley tied things at one with a goal at the 15:03 mark.

44 seconds later Mary Robison gave the Cardinals a 2-1 lead, but Taryn Abbassian answered for the Red Devils to tie the score at two.

The teams continued to trade goals with Lindsay Davenport getting on the board for CUA and Clare Manoli notching the equalizer with 3:47 left before halftime.

Swarthout put CUA back on top with her first goal, which came with only 47 seconds to go, but again Dickinson responded with Kelsey Muir scoring for a second time to send the team teams into halftime knotted at four.

Taryn Abbassian's goal nearly ten minutes into the second half gave the Red Devils their first lead of the day, but a minute later Gretchen Wade tied things at five with a goal off of Swarthout's assist.

Brady's score with 18:11 on the clock put the Cardinals back on top, 6-5, and Robinson found the back of the net less than two minutes later to make it 7-5.

Sarah Lindell then got into the act for CUA scoring off a pass from Swarthout to make the score 8-5 with 8:01 on the clock.

In the final 5:30 Swarthout and Brady added goals to put the game out of reach and give the Cardinals a win in their first road game of 2011.

CUA outshot the Red Devils 25-11, including a 15-2 margin in the second half.  The Cardinals won 10 draw controls, led by Robinson with three, and Becky Borrell had a terrific all-around game picking up five ground balls, causing a team-high four turnovers and also assisting on a goal.

Gabby Sena stopped two shots in goal for CUA, and for Dickinson Jessie Clark sent back 14 of CUA's tries.
