WASHINGTON - The CUA women's soccer team proudly participated in the annual March for Babies walk at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, May 4. The walk is the largest fundraiser for the March of Dimes, an organization that supports healthier babies and raises awareness about premature birth.
The members of the soccer team joined head coach JP Sousa and his family for the walk, as Sousa's son Cameron was born prematurely three years ago. Cameron spent the first six weeks of his life in the NICU at Inova Fairfax Hospital, and during that time the Sousa family witnessed the many ways that March of Dimes supported parents, nurses, and medical staff at the hospital. Coach Sousa and his wife, Suzanne, believe that all babies and their parents should continue to have access to such amazing support. The annual March for Babies is one simple way to help.
This year's walk honored the 75th anniversary of the March of Dimes. The event began in the Center Field Plaza at Nationals Park and looped around the waterfront area next to the stadium for three miles before ending at home plate. Over 2,000 registered walkers participated in the event this year.
Coach Sousa, his family, and the Cardinals enjoyed the event and hopes to continue to support the March of Dimes in the future.
