Halperin named Landmark Defensive Player of the Week
WASHINGTON – After registering 15 saves and a shutout in a
pair of matches last week, freshman Lexi Halperin was named the
Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
This is Halperin’s first career weekly award.
Halperin stopped nearly 94% of the shots she faced last week,
finishing with nine saves in the Cardinals’ 1-0 win over
Christopher Newport on Sunday and six saves vs. Gettysburg on
Wednesday.
A native of New Jersey, Halperin had a number of key saves on
Sunday, as she turned back several CNU shots from close range to
preserve the shutout.
The first-year goalkeeper has started all six matches for CUA and
registered 34 saves during that time. Halperin is currently
sporting a 1.83 GAA and has stopped 76% of the shots she’s
faced in 2012.
Halperin and the Cardinals are back in action on Wednesday
afternoon when they travel to face Stevenson. Start time is
set for 4 p.m.
