CUA and York tie 0-0 in double overtime
WASHINGTON – For the second straight match, CUA was forced to settle for a scoreless draw, as the Cardinals and York played to a 0-0 decision on Tuesday. CUA outshot the Spartans 32-7 on the day, including a 15-2 advantage in the first half, but was unable to find the back of the net.
A shot by CUA's Kaylre Greaves at the 10:50 mark was high, and her attempt a minute later was saved by Melanie Glessner.
Tricia Colucci had a chance at the 18:24 mark, but her header went high, keeping the match scoreless.
Another header, this one coming from Mary McGann at the 29:22 mark, was also high, while Kiersten Gault's attempt two minutes later hit off the post.
Ellen Jansen took the Cards final shot of the opening half, which was stopped by Glessner.
York took two of the first three shots of the second half, but one was wide and Lexi Halperin made the save on the second.
CUA's Kirsten Wosleger looked for the day's first goal at the 63:12 mark, but Glessner again made the save.
With less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation, CUA was awarded a corner kick, which led to a shot from Greaves, but it was saved by Glessner.
As it did during regulation, CUA controlled the action during overtime, outshooting the Spartans by a 10-0 count. McGann took the first two shots, but both were saved.
A shot by Kelly Henderson with less than two minutes to go in the second OT was also saved, as was McGann's final attempt at the 109:58 mark.
Glessner finished with 21 saves for the visitors, while Halperin sent back four shots for CUA.
CUA now heads to Drew on Saturday for the 2012 regular season finale. The teams will meet at 1 p.m. in a match with enormous implications on the upcoming Landmark Conference Tournament.
The Cardinals and Drew enter the weekend with identical conference records of 2-1-2, which places them in third place.
