CUA falls to Shenandoah on the road
WINCHESTER, Va. – CUA dropped its second straight contest on Tuesday evening, falling by a score of 3-0 at Shenandoah. The Hornets' Kati Richardson scored only 22 seconds into the match and Missy Volonino and Kelli Kitchens added goals to improve Shenandoah to 1-2 in 2012.
Less than 30 seconds in, Richardson took a pass from Katie Cataldo and found the back of the net to put the Cards into an early hole.
CUA had chances during the early going, with three corner kicks in a span of seven minutes, but was unable to get off a shot.
The Cardinals defense did its part, holding Shenandoah to just three shots in the opening half. Unfortunately for CUA, the Hornets third shot went for a goal.
Volonino took a pass from Sarah Hensley and registered her first goal of the season to send the home team into halftime with a two-goal lead.
A shot attempt by Richardson early in the second hit the post, keeping it a 2-0 game, and soon after, CUA's Tricia Colucci tried to get the Cardinals on the board, but her shot was saved.
Kitchens put the Hornets in front by three with her first goal of the year at the 59:26 mark of the match and that proved to be enough for Shenandoah to earn the win.
CUA finished the night with only one shot, while Shenandoah totaled 11. The Cardinals held a 6-1 lead in corner kicks, while in goal, CUA's Lexi Halperin and Shenandoah keeper Nichole Pratt both sent back one shot.
The Cardinals return to the pitch on Saturday when they travel to take on Mary Washington. Start time is set for 12:30 p.m.
