WASHINGTON – The Catholic University women's soccer team improves to 2-0 on the season following a 4-2 victory over the Blazers of Hood College in Frederick, Md., on Tuesday, Sept. 4.
The Cardinals were first on the board as Kaylre Greaves (Ocean, N.J. / Ocean Township) finished a pass from Kirsten Wosleger (Rockville Centre, N.Y. / Kellenberg Memorial) at 20:17 on the clock. The Blazers struck back, scoring back-to-back goals to take a 2-1 lead going into halftime.
Catholic commenced the second half with vengeance, as Alexis Garcia (Miami Beach, Fla. / Miami Beach Senior) notched her first career goal, assisted by Alyssa Fiore (Levittown, N.Y. / Division Avenue) tying the score at 2-2 just 15 minutes into the second half. Hood gave up an own goal at the 67:08 mark which rattled the team. CUA took advantage of the unsettled defense as Fiore scored the fourth and final goal just 43 seconds after the ensuing kickoff.
After giving up two goals in the first half, the Cardinals shut down the Blazer offense completely. The mighty red and black dominated the Blazers in shots, limiting Hood to just three shots all in the first half. CUA finished with a 21-to-3 advantage in shots.
The Cardinals return home for their official home-opener on Saturday, Sept. 7 against Mount St. Mary (N.Y.) in the first day of the D.C. Classic, kicking off at 12:00 p.m.
